..whether its source is a habit picked up from your work, a physical or emotional injury, or even if it is genetic in origin ... I can use all the skills at my disposal to give the body and nervous system time to experience the kind of integrated relationships within the structure that allows for the necessary release and subsequent transformation to occur. When the nervous system understands the experience, it begins to be naturally absorbed into the way the body operates. In this way, the integration (the yoga) can be gifted to you to some degree, without the need to go through the process of working it out.
A great deal of my work in this area with people from the west is to do with re-integrating the skull, jaw and cervical spine with the rest of the body (there are many head/jaw/neck/shoulder problems reflecting the disconnection between mind and body), and people find it an extremely effective way of shifting state of mind as well as addressing the physical issue. But it can equally be used to re-educate the relationships through any dysfuntional joint ... a foot and hip can learn to relate differently so that the knee no longer needs to be braced against the forces imposed on it... you can even improve the function of an arthritic finger or wrist with this work.
